13. Houghton Farm
Size: 38.3 acres
Access: Houghton Farm Lane, on the shoulder next to the trailhead
Description: This property is associated with a FOSPRD (Farming and Open Space Residential Development) area. Houses have been built on the lane at a steady rate over a number of years. It is named for members of the Houghton family, many of whom lived nearby. Their ancestors settled in Bolton in its earliest days during the late 17th century when it was still part of Lancaster. One of the most prominent was Joseph Houghton. In 1847 his land and cash donation to the Town enabled the construction of the Town’s first high school. The building is now the Houghton Building in the center of Town. Trail Head with parking Bridge near the Trailhead Stone structure near the trailhead This is a pleasing area for a quiet stroll in the woods on rolling terrain with some points of interest along the way. The main trail forms a “lollipop” shape with a number of side trails leading to private land and property owned by the New England Power Company; please stay within the area shown on the map.
The trails and bridge on this land were built as part of an Eagle Scout project in 2013 by a member of Troop 1 Bolton.
