Description: Bolton acquired 38.5 acres of this property with assistance from the LAND grant program. A further 4.5 acres are land banked for the town’s own use. The area contains some noteworthy features such as a section of the Old Lancaster Railroad bed, wetlands around the perimeter with a vernal pool in a kettle hole at the heart of the land, old cart tracks, and interesting forest vegetation such as mountain laurel . The topography helps the surrounding land by increasing resiliency from floods.
Forbush Field Trail: Passes a beautiful waterfall at the Morse Sawmill Dam site where a perennial stream flows parallel to Forbush Mill Road. In the eighteenth century the waterfall was the site of the foundation of one three mills known as the Brook Sawmill. It is believed that they were built by two brothers, Joel and Joab Bernard.
Sand Road: Is a seasonally restricted access, and unpaved connection between Forbush Mill Rd. and Old Common Rd. in Lancaster.
