Fall / Winter Photography Contest

Celebrating Bolton’s Conservation Land

We are excited to announce a Fall / Winter Photography contest. Take photographs on recognized conservation land in the Town of Bolton between October 1st and the end of the year, and submit them to .

Prizes will be awarded to the top three photographers in two categories: Junior (17 and under) and Adult. We’ll also post thumbnails of submissions periodically and there will be plenty of opportunities for recognition.

Discover a conservation area you’ve never explored, or look at a familiar one in a new way. The extensive conservation land in Bolton makes it a truly unique place to live and visit, so let’s see your favorite spots.


Eligibility

  • Open to all photographers both amateur and professional
  • Two categories: Adult and Junior (ages 17 and under)

Submission Guidelines

  • Photographs can be submitted between October 1 – December 31, 2024, but the photograph does not have to be taken during that time, as long as it meets all other submission criteria. Late entries will not be considered.
  • Each participant can submit up to three (3) distinct photographs.
  • The location where the photograph was taken must be provided (i.e., the trail name or conservation land name)
  • Photographs must be in digital format with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.
  • Only minor digital adjustments (e.g., cropping, sharpening, adjusting exposure) are allowed. No major alterations or AI-generated images allowed.
  • Photographs taken using a drone are not allowed.
  • All photographs must be submitted by email to and specify the following:
    • Name of submitter
    • Age of submitter (to determine Junior or Adult category)
    • Name of trail or conservation area land where photo was taken
  • Participant acknowledges that photographs may be posted on social media sites and/or other marketing sites of the Bolton Conservation Trust.

Theme

  • The theme of the contest is “Celebrating Bolton’s Conservation Land.”
  • Photographs should capture natural landscapes, wildlife, or plants on recognized conservation land in the town of Bolton.
  • Care should be taken to leave little trace or negative impact on conservation land.

Judging Criteria

  • Creativity and originality
  • Composition and technical quality
  • Adherence to theme

Judging Panel

  • Members of the Bolton Conservation Trust board
  • One guest judge

Prizes

  • Prizes will be awarded in each category
    • First prize – $150 gift card
    • Second prize – $100 gift card
    • Honorable mention – $50 gift card
  • All winning photographs will be displayed in a physical location of Bolton Conservation Trust’s choosing

Copyright and Usage

  • Photographers retail full copyright of their images
  • By entering, participants grant the contest organizers the right to use submitted photographs for promotional purposes such as on websites and related social media sites

Disqualification

  • Entries that do not comply with the rules/criteria will be disqualified
  • Plagiarism or use of copyrighted material without permission will result in disqualification

Notification

  • Winners will be notified by email by January 15, 2025
  • Results will be announced on the Bolton Conservation Trust website and the Bolton Community Page on Facebook
